Overview
Across Canada people are being forced to abandon their homes – effectively being evicted – because they are made ill from the wireless microwave radiation emitted by cell tower antennas and other wireless technologies.
There is overwhelming evidence published in peer-reviewed journals by Canadian and international scientists and medical doctors of harm to humans and to other species such as birds and pollinators, at everyday radiation levels.
This affects us all. Wireless radiation is a growing threat to our health and to the environment. We want to bring the stories of those affected as well as the supporting science to Canadians – and what needs to be done to make the technology safer, in a documentary film called Evicted by Wireless – Seeking Solutions for Canadians.
Public awareness is fundamental to bring about positive change.
What is wireless radiation (non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation, EMR)
Just as with gravity, life on Earth evolved within the natural energy forces of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). EMR is energy that travels through space. Most comes from the sun and a relatively minor source is lightning. Earth also has natural electric and magnetic fields. Natural EMR is all around us and within us – sort of like what water is to fish. We can’t see, smell or hear it (like gravity) but life as we know it, would not exist without EMR. We and all life-forms are electrical. All living cells in our bodies run on electrical impulses. Electrical activity in the heart can be measured using EKGs (electrocardiograms) and in the brain using EEGs (electroencephalograms).

A huge and ever growing problem is with the “non-natural,” (human-made) form of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Our civilization has come to depend on non-natural EMR e.g. for telecommunications such as cell phones and Wi-Fi, and for lighting and powering our everyday household appliances such as fridges and ovens However, an overwhelming body of scientific evidence and experiences of many people is that this is harmful to our health and the environment. Levels of both have increased rapidly in the last few decades.

In March of 2020 there were about 50,000 cell towers and more than 850,000 cell network antennas across Canada. In July 2024, we hit one million. And 6 months later, that almost doubled! By the end of 2024 there were 1,956,562 transmitters in Canada – approximately one transmitter for every 20 people.

Inadequate guidelines/standards
Canada
Health Canada’s guidelines, Safety Code 6 and its “complement” for 5G technologies protect only from adverse effects of acute (short term) heating for the radiofrequencies emitted by cell antennas. The evidence of harm from non-heating (non-thermal or athermal) effects documented in hundreds of high-quality studies published in peer-reviewed journals is not incorporated into Health Canada’s Safety Code 6.
Currently Safety Code 6 (2015) guidelines do not protect people with severe electrosensitivity. These guidelines only protect against over-heating of tissue from cell tower radiation and are based on exposures of 6 minutes – not continuous long-term exposures. Health Canada has not conducted any studies on long term health outcomes of people exposed to cell tower radiation although the federal government takes in billions of dollars by leasing radiofrequency spectrum to telecommunications companies.
Table 5 from Safety Code 6 (2015) clearly shows that guidelines are based on 6 minute exposures.

International standards are also inadequate.

USA – FCC
The corresponding standards in the USA are also obsolete. The standards are based on older evidence from long before the current pervasive wireless radiation that exists today. A 2021 court case found that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) had failed to explain why it had not shown it had considered all of the scientific evidence of adverse effects when reaffirming the limits set in 1996.
The USA Appeals court stated that the FCC had been “arbitrary and capricious.” The court also ordered the FCC to address the impacts of radiofrequency radiation on the environment.

The 5G appeal
Scientists and doctors call for a moratorium on the roll-out of 5G. 5G will substantially increase exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields RF-EMF, that has been proven to be harmful for humans and the environment.
As of July 3, 2024, 438 scientists and medical doctors have signed the appeal.
