The controversy over wireless devices in the classroom heats up again on the first day of school.

Peel District School Board is encouraging students this year to BYOD – or Bring-Your-Own-Device to class. Peel is the second largest school district in Canada.

Parents will be outside at least one school in Peel tomorrow morning handing out information on the health risks to children from chronic exposure to wireless radiation.

Former president of Microsoft Canada Frank Clegg is helping to organize the wireless safety campaign.

“Parents deserve to know wireless radiation can cause a wide range of symptoms including headaches, nausea and racing heart rates,” says Frank Clegg, who now heads up Canadians for Safe Technology, or C4ST.

Two years ago, the World Health Organization declared microwave radiation from all wireless devices to be a possible carcinogen. DDT and lead are in this same category. Since then, Ontario’s two largest teacher’s unions have called for fewer wireless devices in schools, citing health concerns and distracted students.
