C4ST Applauds Toronto Board of Health’s Decision to Retain Lower Ceiling for Cell Tower Wireless Radiation

Toronto, November 12, 2013 – Canadians for Safe Technology (C4ST) supports the Toronto Board of Health on voting to keep the ceiling for wireless radiation from cell towers at levels 100 times below “Safety Code 6” Health Canada guidelines. The City will continue with the Prudent Avoidance Policy and will not remove this precautionary health stance from the policy books. Please see www.c4st.org/TorontoPA for more details.
CEO Frank Clegg, formerly president of Microsoft Canada was present for the vote, calling it “historic.” “It took conviction for the Board members to keep this visionary policy in place.” said Clegg. “They put Torontonians’ health and safety first, and I commend them for doing so.” Toronto’s Prudent Avoidance Policy is visionary and is considered one of the best in the world. In fact, it provides Torontonians with a safer level of protection from wireless radiation than the federal government does, through Health Canada’s Safety Code 6. “When the largest city in Canada thinks that Health Canada is not doing enough to protect Canadians, that is significant. It’s now time for Stephen Harper to step in and fix the broken process that Health Canada has underway to update Safety Code 6. The evidence is compelling that it’s the right thing to do.” said Clegg.
Canadians can go to the C4ST website, www.c4st.org, to find out how to reduce exposure to the radiation emitted from all wireless devices including portable phones, cell phones, cell towers, smart meters, Wi-Fi, and baby monitors, and learn more about this crucial health issue.
C4ST is a national, not-for-profit, volunteer-based coalition of parents, citizens and experts whose mission is to educate and inform Canadians and policy makers about the dangers of exposure to unsafe levels of wireless radiation from technology; and to work with all levels of government to create healthier communities for children and families.
